About Charades Generator
The Charades Generator is a free online tool that picks random acting prompts from a curated library of over 200 words and phrases. Select Easy for simple everyday items and actions like "Dog" or "Riding a bike," Medium for more involved scenarios like "Parallel parking" or "Rocking a baby to sleep," or Hard for abstract concepts like "Procrastination," "Deja vu," or "Imposter syndrome." The Fisher-Yates shuffle ensures a different set every time you generate, so the same prompt never appears twice in a single round.
Where this tool earns its place is the moment before a party starts — when everyone is waiting and nobody wants to write 30 prompts by hand. Select your difficulty, choose how many cards you need (up to 10 per draw), hit New Charades, and pass the screen around. The custom list feature lets you paste in your own words and phrases, which then replace the built-in prompts for that difficulty level for the rest of the session. That makes it easy to build a themed round: all movie titles, all office in-jokes, or all words relevant to a bachelorette party.
All generation happens entirely in your browser — no data is ever sent to a server, no account is needed, and the tool is free without a paywall. Refresh the page at any point to reset custom lists back to the built-in defaults.
Key Features
Three calibrated difficulty tiers
Easy covers concrete nouns and simple actions suitable for children. Medium adds multi-step activities and physical scenarios. Hard focuses on abstract concepts and idioms that challenge adult players.
Fisher-Yates shuffle for fair draws
Every batch is drawn from a freshly shuffled copy of the prompt pool, so you get no repeats within a single round and a genuinely random order each time.
Custom list per difficulty
Enter any words or phrases you like — one per line — and apply them to a specific difficulty slot. Your custom list replaces the defaults for the rest of the session without affecting the other two difficulty tiers.
Copy-all for digital sharing
One click copies every prompt in the current batch to your clipboard, formatted one per line. Paste them into a group chat, a shared doc, or a slide deck in seconds.
No install, no sign-up, no ads
The tool runs as a static page with zero server round-trips. Open it on any device, generate prompts offline once the page has loaded, and close the tab when you are done.
Works on phones mid-game
The layout is fully responsive. Pass a phone or tablet around the table and each player taps New Charades to draw their own prompt without the rest of the group seeing the screen.

Classroom and ESL teaching
Teachers use the Easy tier to reinforce vocabulary through physical mime. Students act out nouns and verbs while classmates call out the word, combining kinesthetic learning with speaking practice.

Themed party rounds with custom lists
Paste in your own prompts — movie titles, TV show characters, or inside jokes — using the custom list feature to create a round tailored to your specific crowd. Standard random-word tools lack this acting-game framing.

Quick warm-up for improv or drama classes
Improv coaches pull a Hard batch of abstract concepts for students to portray without speaking, making it a focused mime exercise rather than a generic word-generation task.
